This list currently contains 51 World Wide Education & Training Establishments.

We have listed all the sources of education & training relating to the leather industry that we are aware of. Ranging from the production of leather to the manufacture of the multitude of items made from it. It includes Colleges, Training Centers & Private Trainers. This gives a selection from full time courses to short intensive courses. For those wanting to work in one of the leather industries most companies will employ trainees & allow either in house training coupled with some college education. Various levels of qualification are also obtainable. Type of training available: Leathergoods / Footwear / Saddlery / Tanning / Conservation / Leather Decoration / Fashion & Design /Video Lessons on Gun Holsters & Knife Sheathes

We are now linking up with Selected Short Course Training Providers to offer training to anyone wishing to take up this Ancient Craft using the Instruction Manuals available on this site. These will be designated  'Centres of Excellence' & will be listed with that Logo.

The Leather Craft Workshop, 55, Seago Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk, NR32 2DT.
TEL = 01502 538486 Contact: John Temple. E-mail: john.temple2@btopenworld.com 'The Leather Connection' is now able to offer Craft Courses through this Associated Provider. We have teamed up with John Temple who has considerable experience as a Lecturer & Trainer. This provides our first 'Center of Excellence' which will provide high quality training based on our 'Instruction Manuals' These Short but intensive courses will provide training for beginners as well as advanced students. Subjects, covered, Basic Skills, Construction of Small Leathergoods, Handbags, Luggage, Pattern Making & Design. Cut edge & Turned Edge Work will be included as well as Hand & Machine Sewing. Any existing purchasers of the manuals are expected to take them with them if they attend these courses, other students will need to order them from 'The Leathercraft Workshop' when they book their course so that the manuals are ready for them when their course starts. (This is important as the manuals provide the written information & avoid practical lesson time being wasted taking notes). These Craft Courses are similar to (but not based on) the intense full time courses that were available in the past. They deal specifically with Craft Skills & Techniques, you will not require the high level of education & Qualifications necessary for today's HND & Degree courses that colleges are forced to offer to attract suitable funding. They are also broader than the Industry based NVQ Qualifications. NVQ's require specific tests at each level which are backed up by in-house training, this means that a trainee will only gain experience related to the area of the industry that their company is involved in. With modern companies becoming more specialised the scope to acquire a broad range of skills is now limited. On these courses however all the skills are taught as they always were (before the so called training experts messed about with the delivery). For further information about these courses Contact John Temple he will be happy to discuss your needs with you.
